How do you deal with being out of state from your mother while pregnant?

My wife has recently become concerned with the idea of becoming pregnant with our child while she's in a different state than her mother. We live 650 miles away, and while my family's here, it's not gonna be the same; I understand that.

It would be our first kid and her first grandkid. We are happy where we're at, but they (understandably) want to be closer together. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Even if not, any advice on how to handle this situation? How do you deal with being out of state from your mother while pregnant?
My husband is in the Military. We're currently stationed Georgia, NONE of our family lives ANYWHERE near us. At first it was difficult for me to get excited about having my baby because of this. I found it hard to be happy about starting my own family when I don't have my family here supporting me. But after my first doctor's appointment, when I go to hear my baby's heartbeat, I called my mom, and grandma, we talked for hours about the appointment, and how much I wished they were here. Since then we've been talking on the phone everyday, I know it's not the same but it helps. I'm also sending pics from the ultrasound, and recordings of my sonograms home so that every one can experience them too. I also invited some on my family down to stay with us during the birth.

Good Luck, I know it's hard! How do you deal with being out of state from your mother while pregnant?
I am in a similar situation. I am 31 weeks pregnant and live across the country from my whole family. This is my first child and I really wish I was closer to my mom and family and friends. I have just kept in contact with them as much as possible and am flying out to see them as soon as I can after she is born.. It's a tough situation.
Im expecting my first and I will live 24 hours away from my mother :( Its not going to be easy but its whats best for us right now. My husband has a career here and thats how it has to go. But you can always fly, drive down and visit once a month! Im sure it will all turn out well! Goodluck
i live 1800 miles away from my mom. granted, my dad is nearby, however, dad's aren't the same as moms. that's why the invented the telephone and the internet. if she has a question she can either call or write. I know it's not the same as being physically there, however, sometimes you don't even know the difference when you're speaking with them on the phone.
